This week's Aria of the Week is "Allerseelen" by Richard Strauss. The contralto in this clip is Sara Couden.
Today's update is Polish contralto Ewa Wolak.
The dark and plummy voice of Polish contralto Ewa Wolak is a permanent fixture at the opera house in Karlsruhe. Wolak has performed and recorded many of the key contralto roles, inlcluding Carmen, Cornelia, La Cieca, Erda, Gaea, Olga, Quickly, Ulrica and Isabella in Rossini's Italiana in Algeri. A true contralto, she is definitely a singer to watch!

This week's Aria of the Week is "Peccator Videbit" from the Beatus Vir by Antonio Vivaldi. This version is the one written for the Ospedale della Pietà, and is scored for a contralto. In the later version, reworked by Vivaldi, it is instead performed by a tenor. The contralto in this clip is Hilary Summers.
