Contralto Elizabeth Pétillot enjoys an active and versatile career as an engaging performer in opera, oratorio, chamber music, and recital. Most recently she completed her first major recording of contemporary American music for contralto, viola and piano to be released by Albany records in the spring of 2013. As part of the project she was pleased to work directly with esteemed composers Libby Larsen and Michael Colgrass as well as premiere two commissioned works for her ensemble, the Chiaroscuro Trio. In addition to her work as a solo artist Elizabeth is also a long time member of the Grammy nominated chamber choir, Conspirare, directed by Craig Hella Johnson, with whom she just completed a CD project of Russian contemporary choral works to be released on the Harmonia Mundi label in 2014.
During the 2012-2013 season Elizabeth will be performing as the alto soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Chippewa Valley Symphony, as a guest artist with the Walled City Music Festival in Derry, Ireland, and in premiere performances of a new chamber work by Dr. Ethan Wickman at the University of TX – San Antonio. Elizabeth currently teaches voice, intro to singing and directs the Women’s Chorus at the University of WI – Eau Claire. This summer she has been invited to participate in the NATS Intern Program, a prestigious workshop for teachers of singing in Nashville, TN that is sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Elizabeth speaks Italian and French fluently and has studied voice at Indiana University Bloomington where she received her Bachelors degree in vocal performance, and with Prof. Rose Taylor of the University of Texas at Austin where she completed both her Masters degree and her DMA.
