BIOGRAPHY
Starting the 2014-2015 season, Genevieve King will be an Ensemble member of theMainz opera, where she will be heard in the role of Rosina and in the German National Premiere of Dusapin's Perelà.
She made her Bayreuth Festival debut in Frank Castorf's new production of the Ring, where she performed the role of the Valkyrie Grimgerde.
Awarded the Erna Schlüter Opera Preis in 2013 at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, she performed the roles of Rosina, Baba the Turk and Olga, in the 2012-2014 seasons.
Born in France, this mezzo-soprano, a student of Professor Rudolf Piernay, was accepted at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London at age sixteen, where she studied seven years, obtaining thus a Bachelor's Degree in Music, a Master's Degree and a diploma of superior studies. Her musical training focused on the concert repertoire, chamber music and opera.
She also integrated the opera course of the same school, where she performed the roles of Giacinta (La Finta Semplice, Mozart), Mistress Quickly (Falstaff, Verdi) and Zita (Puccini, Gianni Schicchi).
She continued her training at the Steans Institute for Young Artists in Chicago, and with the great mezzo-soprano Grace Bumbry, and took masterclasses with Malcolm Martineau, Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, Christa Ludwig, Emma Kirkby, Gerald Moore and Pierre Vallet.
In 2007, she signed her first contract at the Leipzig Opera House, where she performed the roles of Dritte Dame (Mozart, Die Zauberflöte), Federica (Luisa Miller, Verdi), Flora (La Traviata, Verdi), Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos, Strauss), Blumenmädchen (Parsifal, Wagner).
She also was heard on the Gewandhaus stage in the oratorio repertoire.
A member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf from 2009 to 2012, she performed the roles of Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri, Rossini), Olga (Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky), Mercedes (Carmen, Bizet), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana, Mascagni), Maddalena (Rigoletto, Verdi), La Marquise de Birkenfeld (La Fille du Régiment, Donizetti), Dritte Dame (Zauberflöte, Mozart), Schwertleite (Die Walküre, Wagner), Mary (Fliegender Holländer), Der Tod (Die Nachtigal, Stravinsky), Stimme von oben (Frau ohne Schatten, Strauss).
She is a prize winner of the Bleustein-Blanchet Foundation, a prize winner of the Singer Polignac Foundation, a prize winner of the Marmande International Singing Competition, a prize winner of the Kammer Oper Schloss Rheinsberg competition, and prize winner of the Richard Wagner Verband.
Her tessitura allows her to perform both mezzo-soprano and contralto roles. She is also an accomplished chamber music and concert performer.
