Susanna Sundberg, a true contralto who grew up in Stockholm. She had her advanced music education at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (Finland) and the University Collage of Opera in Stockholm (Sweden). In December 2006 she graduated with diploma and made her debut asMaddalena in Rigoletto at Folkoperan the same year. Season 2011/2012 Susanna sang the role of Mercedes in Carmen (with director Vincent Boussard and conductor Lionel Bringuier) as well as the contralto solo in Handel's Messiah at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm. In the autumn of 2014 Susanna sang six performances as Amastre with Ensemble Matheus and Jean-Christophe Spinosi and was also cover for Arsamene in Händel's Xerxes at Artipelag. In the summer of 2014 Susanna sang Mrs. Quickly in Verdi's Falstaff at the Läckö Opera. In 2012 Susanna participated with Anne Sofie von Otter on her cd Sogno Barocco. Important operatic engagement include roles like Mercedes in Carmen at the Swedish Royal Opera House, Maddalena in Rigoletto at Folkoperan, Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana with Värmlandsoperans Sinfonietta, Patricia/Lotta in Sömnkliniken by Carl Unander- Scharin at Gothenburg Opera house,Lehrbub in Die Meistersinger at Gothenburg Opera house, Olga/JouJou in Die Lustige witwe at Folkoperan and Eva (the lead role) in Du är min drömprins at Vadstena Akademien. Susannas warm and expressive contralto voice is perfectly suited for the classical oratorio repertoire. She has performed with orchestras such as the Royal Court Orchestra with conductor Lionel Bringuier, Daniel Blendulf, Rossen Milanov and Graham Bond, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gustaf Sjökvist, Norrlandsoperans Sinfonietta with conductor Benjamin Bayl, ReBaroque, Stockholms Baroque Orchestra, Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester and Kristiansands Symfoniorkester. Her repertoire includes Bach's B minor mass, St Matthew passion, St John Passion and the Christmas Oratorio, Pergolesis Stabat Mater, Handel's Messiah and Mozart's Requiem. Susanna won the 1st Prize in the Kokkola Lied Competition (Finland) together with pianist Javier Arrebola, and later the same year, 2007, she was awarded a special prize at the International Sibelius Singing Competition. She has recieved scholarships from the Swedish Wagner society, the Drottningholm theater, Anders Wall, Konstnärsnämnden, Musikaliska Akademien, and the TSO-sisters, to name a few.
