Born in Venice, Giovanna Dissera Bragadin began studying music at the Conservatory "Benedetto Marcello" of Venice. She graduated, with the highest possible grades, in flute, in Gregorian chant in liturgical music prepolifonica and antique instruments.
She then began to study singing with Maestro Sherman Lowe, who discovered that she possesed a rare contralto voice. Bragadin attended courses in Baroque performance practice of singing under the guidance of the Masters Edward Smith, Clodine Ansermet, Gloria Banditelli and Jill Feldmann . Among her most important performances were The Return of Ulysses in his homeland and in the Ballo delle ingrate of C. Monteverdi, the latter in a rare staging recorded for the label Tactus. She has also played the role of Mary Magdalene in the oratory The Passion of Jesus Christ of JG Naumann, recorded for the German label CPO (world premiere in modern times). Her repertoire includes important pieces such as the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, Magnificat , Gloria and Beatus Vir by A. Vivaldi, the Magnificat and Mass in B minor by JS Bach, the Requiem by WA Mozart, Kindertotenlieder and Des Knaben Wunderhorn by G. Mahler, El Amor Brujo by M. De Falla, various Chansons French C. Debussy, G. Faure, R. Hahn. Bragadin is passionate about music by Benedetto Marcello, and has performed the cantata Cassandra , many Psalms, and seeks to rediscover his unreleased music. As a soloist she has worked with the Harmonica Club, the Chamber Orchestra of Padua and the Veneto, Veneto Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra J. Futura, the Ensemble Dodecantus, the orchestra The Strali of Cupid, Oficina Music, NOVART the Baroque Ensemble. She has recorded for the labels Tactus, Rivo Alto, CPO, Dinamic, as well as a documentary for Swedish television and a video for National Geographic on the Venetian music. She has sung in several important festivals and theaters, including the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Feasts of Apollo, the Friends of Music of Padua and Venice, the Festival Galuppi, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, the Chigi Academy Siena, the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, the concert season of the Basilica dei Frari in Venice, and has also collaborated with the Teatro Stabile del Veneto and Venice's Teatro 7. In 2010 she sang with the maestro S. Schreiber in a performance which premiered at the Guggenheim Museum in Berlin, performing a piece commissioned to master Jochen Neurath. She is frequently involved in various ensembles in Italy and abroad (USA, Germany, Belgium, Hungary). Since 2011 collaborates with the association Musica Venezia. She has taught baroque singing at the courses organized in Basilicata by Maestro Sergio Balestracci, dedicated to the composer Gregorio Strozzi. In 2003, at the invitation of the Italian-American "Dante Alighieri" in Boston (USA), Bragadin has performed concerts in the various theatres of city getting a warm personal success. © Giovanna Dissera Bragadin
