The german contralto Wiebke Lehmkuhl, succeeded first as a flutist (modern flute and Baroque flute).
She studied singing with Ulla Groenewold, then at the Musikhochschule Hamburg with Hanna Schwarz. After guest engagements in Kiel and the state opera houses of Hamburg and Hannover, in 2008 she got permanent member at the Opernhaus Zürich. There she sang Erda, Erste Norn, Schwertleite in Wilson’s “Ring”, Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), the Third Lady in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Giunone G. F. Handel’s Agrrippina, Annina (Rosenkavalier) and Hedwige (Rossini: Guilleaume Tell). The Third Lady (Magic flute) she performed in Festival Hall Salzburg in a concert version under René Jacobs, as well as in a new production at the Salzburg Festival 2012 under Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Her concert repertoire includes all important Bach Oratorios, Handel Messiah, Solomon, Jephta, Theodora, La Resurrezione (Musikverein Vienna and Lucerne Festival under Nikolaus Harnoncourt), Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Paulus, Walpurgisnacht (in Shanghai), Elias, Honegger Roi David, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Dvorak Stabat Mater, Brahms Alt-Rhapsodie and Rossini Petite Messe solennelle. As a specialist in the field of ancient music she worked with conductors likeNikolaus Harnoncourt, Thomas Hengelbrock, Reinhhard Goebel, Andreas Spering, Mark Minkowski (Bach Magnificat), René Jacobs, Hermann Max, Peter Neumann, Hans-Christoph Rademann and Riccardo Chailly in Bach Christmas Oratorio, which also appeared as a CD (Decca). In the Opernhaus Zürich she worked with conductors such as Franz Welser-Möst, Ingo Metzmacher, Philippe Jordan and Daniele Gatti. In the new "Ring"-production in Paris (Opéra Bastille) she performes Flosshilde (Rheingold), Schwertleite (Walküre), First Norn and Flosshilde (Götterdämmerung) under Philippe Jordan. At the Opernhaus Zürich she will sing the contralto solo part in Handel Messiah with Ottavio Dantone conducting, and Engel in Schumann’s ”Das Paradies und die Peri“ under Fabio Luisi. First Norn and Flosshilde (Götterdämmerung) she performes also at the Staatsoper Munich. 2013/14 she will perform Third Lady (Magic flute) in Paris (Opéra Bastille). In The Hague she will perform the soli in Mozart Requiem under Ton Koopman, in Berlin the soli in Schumann's "Szenen aus Goethes Faust" under Nikolaus Harnoncourt. © Wiebke Lehmkuhl
