American Contralto Bell Cole became a darling of the English during Jubilee year, and sang at the invitation of Queen Victoria at the Royal Albert Hall for the German Emperor. Her voice had a remarkable compass, stretching over three octaves up to F6! It was while attending an evening recital by the well-known American contralto Belle Cole, hearing the sounds she wanted to make and could work on, when a young Clara Butt decided she would become a contralto.
